Child Abuse Prevention
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. As the Child Abuse Prevention Council for Butler County, in April, B.C.V.O.W. encourages awareness and supports many family friendly activities.
KidFest - In April, to align with Child Abuse Prevention month, B.C.V.O.W. has hosted KidFest where health and service agencies set up a carnival type event to entertain preschool and elementary age kids while providing parents and caregivers with valuable information they may need for their family. The Balloon Man gives out balloon animals, and a meal is served to all in attendance. This project served around 200 people each year it was offered.
Coloring Contest - Also in April, elementary students at all of the Butler County Schools are provided a Coloring Contest page. Youngsters can also pick up a coloring contest page at their local library! Three winners are selected and are offered their choice of a $100.00 gift certificate to Marcus Theater, Palmer's Family Fun, or Get Air!
Family BINGO - New in 2025, B.C.V.O.W. developed a Family BINGO Contest to encourage families to participate in activities together. Activities like, "Have a picnic in the park", "Have a dance party", "Watch a sunset together", "Cook a meal together" and so many more! Three winners were selected and offered their choice of a $250.00 family activity package!
Proclamation - In April, B.C.V.O.W. Members ask the Butler County Supervisors to sign a Proclamation which designates April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Butler County, Iowa.
Public Service Announcements - B.C.V.O.W. Board Members record public service announcements about raising healthy children which are aired on the local radio stations.
